What is the meaning behind our name?
Lumos is a word often associated with terms like luminosity or luminescence, derived from the Latin root lumen meaning light. For readers and fans of the Harry Potter books, you’ll recognize it as the spell to produce light. Light is often associated with indicating hope and an end to darkness and struggle. Lumos was chosen as the name of our practice because we hope to be a guiding light for those going through tough times and life’s struggles. It is our philosophy that counseling is about the whole person and their journey through life, and sometimes a guide is needed to navigate the more difficult paths. Lumos services all populations including children, adolescents, and adults of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We believe that finances should not be a barrier to those seeking treatment, and we are willing and happy to work with you to not allow the cost of seeking help to be a burden on you or your family.
Our logo…
Just as light is a symbol of hope, our logo of a phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and renewal. The phoenix is defined in classical mythology as “a unique bird that lived for 5 or 6 centuries in the Arabian desert, after this time burning itself on a funeral pyre and rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle” (source). The phoenix symbolizes “overcoming darkness and rising to the challenge to become powerful and succeed” (source). A few of the characteristics of a phoenix include: loyalty, ability to carry heavy loads, and their tears have healing powers. We chose the phoenix as our logo to let our clients know that they too can rise above and overcome their difficulties and rise to the challenges of life, and like the phoenix, they have been carrying a heavy emotional load that they can unburden and go forward with their life healed and provide healing to others.
